Photos on Canvas

Choosing the right image for your canvas.

Digital images are made up of small dots. When a camera takes an image, it records these dots in its memory. The greater the number of dots, the more details the camera records.

Typically, when you look at your computer screen, dots are displayed at between 72-96 dots per inch (dpi), but the crispest and sharpest photographic images require resolutions of up to 300dpi. This means the printed image can look much better than the image on your screen if the right resolution is chosen. Conversely, a low resolution (low dpi) image may look fine on your computer, but won’t look so good when it is printed. In The Designer software, we’ve set out some guidelines and warnings for you to help you choose the right canvas size for the image.

We've created a guide to help you select the best size for your canvas or enlargement based on the pixel dimensions of your image.
